Domaine Henri Chauvet
Henri Chauvet founded his 10.5-hectare estate in Boudes, Auvergne, in spring 2021, taking over Domaine Sauvat. After an initial career in banking and insurance, he shifted to winemaking, training in the Rhône Valley, notably with Thierry Allemand.
The vineyard is planted with Gamay (60%), Pinot Noir (30%), and Chardonnay, across a remarkable diversity of soils, including volcanic basalt, marl, clay, and iron-rich formations. From the red clay plots in the valley to the steep basalt slopes of Baconnet, this complexity enables the production of highly expressive, terroir-driven wines.
The 2021 vintage marked his debut, with ten cuvées crafted to explore the full potential of each terroir. The results are already highly promising, positioning Henri Chauvet as one of the most exciting emerging winemakers in Auvergne.
From the outset, Henri committed to organic farming despite the demanding conditions of these steep hillside vineyards. His philosophy is clear: to produce wines that reflect their origin with precision and authenticity. While inspired by natural winemaking, he avoids extremes, focusing instead on balance and purity. His wines are made with indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration, and with minimal or no sulfur depending on the vintage.
